Director’s Story…

Hammond Recruitment Solutions was established by Steve Hammond – a career recruiter with nearly thirty years of experience in Human Resources and Executive Recruitment in Australia, England and New Zealand.

Born and bred in Dunedin, New Zealand, Steve graduated from Otago University with a Commerce Degree in HR Management and Marketing. He established his career being responsible for recruitment as well as broader HR functions at Cadbury Confectionery (at the time Dunedin’s largest private employer). He interviewed literally thousands of people from Factory Hands to Sales Executives and Microbiologists and developed behavioural interviewing and assessment techniques he still calls on today.

Steve returned to Otago University to complete post-graduate qualifications in Labour Law and Marketing before adding the ultimate qualification for most New Zealanders – O E (or “Overseas Experience”)

After the obligatory, character building bar work, Steve joined London’s leading boutique executive search consultancy, JHA Employment Solutions. The company’s founder, Jonathon Jordan was (and no doubt still is) a “guru” in the British recruitment industry. Formerly a Director and highest billing consultant at one of the world’s leading recruitment businesses, Jonathon taught Steve the art as well as the science of recruitment at a time when there were more than 10,000 recruitment companies in London alone, and top talent in the Banking and Finance industry was attracting million-pound loyalty bonuses! Steve set company records for billings at JHA and rose through the ranks to eventually become a Director and lead a team of high performing Consultants.

Steve moved to Brisbane and took over the reins at a family manufacturing business before joining local recruitment firm, People in Property. Employed initially as a Recruitment Consultant, on the back of his Steve success was promoted to Manager and eventually an equity Director of the business.

People in Property, as the name suggests were a specialist property recruiter and Steve concentrated predominantly in the Corporate Real Estate, Asset Management and Development space. It was here that he established the Australian networks and knowledge that he continues to build on today.

As they say, what goes around comes around, and the “Head Hunter” was “Head Hunted” himself by a national group looking to establish their brand in Brisbane. Kingfisher Recruitment approached Steve to set up and run their Queensland operation which he did before establishing Hammond Recruitment Solutions in 2017 where he continues to focus on offering a personalised service and specialist expertise that adds real value for clients and candidates alike.
